Zoo news – July 2024

8th August, 2024

This month the park has been busy with lots of visitors and zoo events. We have the pleasure to reveal the unexpected birth of a baby Macaque and were delighted to host the very first ever Bush Dog Day, with the emergence of 3 bush dog babies.

Celebrating Bush Dog Day and our new bush dog babies

World Bush Dog Day was celebrated on the 21st of July. Being the first of its kind, World Bush Dog Day is an important campaign that promotes Proyecto Zorro Pitoco (The Bush Dog Project), a conservation project in South America. The project involves the protection of bush dogs, through a number of incentives in their home range. And what a great time to celebrate with the emergence of three baby bush dogs!

We waited patiently for the puppies to emerge and the week of bush dog day we were delighted to see 3 little heads pop out of the nest box. After our vet did a full health check, we are delighted to announce that we have 3 healthy puppies, 2 females and 1 male.

Tiger Day with Wild Cat Conservation Alliance

Each year we are proud to celebrate Global Tiger Day as part of our partnership with the Wild Cats Conservation Alliance (WCA). We have been partners with the WCA since 2012 when our first big cats came to the zoo and throughout the years, we have continued to support the incredible work that they do. The WCA carry out multiple projects, in the field, that contribute to securing healthy populations in the wild.

The day was a roaring success with lots of activities in the zoo including a tiger trail, lots of keeper sessions and a tiger day competition.

Celebrating Pride at Emerald Park Zoo

Emerald Park celebrated Pride Weekend with vibrant festivities! Our staff and visitors enjoyed a colourful and inclusive atmosphere, showcasing our commitment to diversity. We proudly support our team through robust company policies that ensure everyone feels safe being their authentic selves. To honour the occasion, we creatively decorated the animal enclosures with Pride-themed enrichment, adding a joyful touch for both our animals and guests. Emerald Park is dedicated to fostering an environment of acceptance and love, reflecting the true spirit of Pride. Join us in celebrating unity and diversity all year round!
